To the NightWatchman and robin hood I leave this statement,
Have you two even watched the new Robin Hood series at all?! I mean just keep blabbering on about something it appears you know nothing about! This new Robin Hood is a brilliant interpretation of an old classic that brings the story to life giving it great accomplishment and letting it stand above every other show series or otherwise!
Both of you should be ashamed of yourselves. learn to only talk about things you know.

I agree with you about Lucy's excellent interpretation, BUT IO totally disagree that Marian was ever a "damsel in distress". This notion is maybe based on the poor (but successful) American versions: Prince of Thieves and the Errl Flynn "Adventures of Robin Hood".

If you look at the 1957 Patricia Driscoll TV version, or Judi Trott in 1984s Robin of Sherwood, or the 1990s Robin Hood movie (etc., etc.,) you will find Marian was always a strong and valuable member of the team. It's just that Hollywood never chose to portray her that way.

i find that this new series, however far from the legand it maybe, the writers at the BBC have done a fantastic job creating the sereis. I love the idea of marian having a proper role in this series, as if you view most other robin hood interpretations, this is not the case, and marian is just the damsel in distress

Thanks for the contribution, because all opinions are valid and welcome.

Regarding the "politically correct" issue, I would agree where the absence of Friar Tuck is concerned. It wasn't necessary to cut him out.

But where Djaq is concerned we've had a Saracen, muslim outlaw since the 1980s, and I think that's been a good thing because it gives us a chance to look at the Crusades and King Richard's activities from another perspective. King Richard bankrupted the country with that war, and caused problems which persist to this day.

Also, if you look at the Patricia Driscoll Maid Marian from the 1950s, on my main Robin Hood blog, you'll see the equal rights issue for the girls was explored even then. (She's still my favourite Marian).
